Sponsored Post: A Game of Thrones Premiere Party

This is a sponsored post. I was compensated in the form of a free product, discount, or monetary payment to write this post. All opinions are my own.

I’m going to assume since you are reading this blog post that you frequent the interwebs, which means I am sure you know that the much-anticipated Game of Thrones season six premiered last weekend. I am a huge GoT fan, and for a while it was the only reason we had HBO. However, now thanks to Google Chromecast and HBONow, everyone can get access to the magic of GoT soooo easily. Chromecast plugs into your TV and allows you to broadcast movies and programming from your laptop or iPad right on your TV screen. HBONow is kind of like Netflix for HBO. So you sign up for HBONow (there’s even a free trial) and snag a Google Chromecast and you can binge on GoT to your heart’s content…not that I would ever do that. I was asked to host a GoT premiere party, and I maybe got a wee bit excited about it. I put together some themed drinks and snacks, busted out some DIY decor, and arranged GoT Bingo. A few of our friends came over last Sunday, and we first watched the season five finale and then watched the premiere. I’ll keep this spoiler free, but I really enjoyed the premiere, and I hope that we get to see some of these storylines really develop. I’m excited for this season in particular since the sixth book hasn’t come out yet, which means no one knows what is going to happen. AKA no spoilers and no smug friends being all like I already know who’s going to die because I read the book. You know who I’m talking about. Anyway, without further ado, here are the highlights from our Game of Thrones premiere party!

First, the food and drink…

For cocktails, we served two different themed drinks. One was the Blood of the Dragon, which was vodka, cranberry juice, pomegranate juice and a splash of grenadine. The second was the Lannister Lion, which featured bourbon, ginger beer, and a splash of lemon. We served the drinks in these awesome gold goblets I found at Party City. I printed some house sigils onto cardstock and used them for drink markers.

Here is the view of our bar area. In addition to the cocktails we also had red wine, for the Cersei fans out there.

Our food selection was all about the puns. I found some of these on Pinterest, and came up with a couple of my own. I’m all about a good pun, so puns, Game of Thrones, and snacks were maybe my favorite ever.

In terms of party hosting, this one was pretty easy because all of the food was store bought and most of the decor was stuff I already had, namely lots and lots of candles. I did pick up some extra candles at the dollar store, along with some extra metal trays. For added entertainment during the premiere, I came up with Game of Thrones Bingo. I made a list of common occurrences on the show, like swordfight, someone dies, etc. Each person filled in their bingo card with their chosen phrases and then marked them off as they happened during the show. Surprisingly, no one actually got bingo!

I was able to print all of the signage pretty easily at home by downloading the Game of Thrones font. This was probably my favorite sign…

I had never hosted or been to a show premiere party before and I was a little apprehensive about how it would work out, but everyone had fun and it was cool to watch the show with other like-minded Game of Thrones fans. Plus, I had a ton of fun putting everything together, and as a bonus, got to learn all about how awesome Google Chromecast and HBONow are! Are you a Game of Thrones fan? What did you think about the premiere?
