Step Up Your 2017 Style with JORD Wood Watches

This is a sponsored post. I was compensated in the form of a discount, free product, or monetary payment in exchange for this post. All opinions are my own.

Well, my friends, we are now halfway done with the first month of 2017. I don’t know about you, but this is about the time I typically lose steam with my resolutions, which is why I didn’t make any this year! Instead of resolutions, I made myself some promises that are not so all-consuming that I am setting myself up for failure. One thing I would like to do is take a little bit better care of myself. Now that I am mostly working from my home, my daily look has gone from cute to pajamas with no stops in between. And while I can totally get on board with the PJ’s look when I am in the comfort of my own home, out and about, it ain’t so cute. So I am trying to step up my fashion game a bit this year, and I have found that it is super easy to make a big difference with a couple of small changes. Mostly these changes come in the form of accessories, and one of my favorite new accessories is my JORD Wood Watch. These watches are absolutely stunning, and they are so unique! When mine arrived, I was sold just on the box alone.

I love the simplicity of this particular style of watch (the Frankie 35 in Zebrawood and Navy). It’s perfect for giving my everyday looks some style, but it can also be dressed up for wedding consultations and networking events (and when it comes to investing in accessories, I am all about versatility).

Now, let’s talk about how I am stepping up my work-at-home-mom style game. This is what I usually wear when I am running around town hanging out with Squirt. (Full disclosure here: my makeup never looks like this on a normal day…I do have a small amount of vanity folks.) You can see how basic (and boring) my look is: jeans, white T-shirt, and flip flops (and no pedicure, because it’s winter y’all).

But by making just a few small changes, I can totally take this look from bleh to stylish mom. I swapped out my regular jeans for skinny gray jeans (which I am obsessed with) and my flip flops for nude ballet flats (cuter, but still comfortable enough for toddler chasing). I added a long necklace (also doubles as toddler hypnotizer when needed) and my JORD Wood Watch (also great for keeping track of time out length, should your little angel need one).

I may not be winning any style awards anytime soon, but hey, I think we can all agree that look number two is way more interesting than look number one.

If you are interested in checking out JORD Wood Watches for yourself (which should be a duh), then you will want to click on this link right here to enter for a chance to win a $100 gift card to use to purchase your very own JORD Wood Watch. In addition, just by entering the giveaway you get a code to receive $25 off your purchase, what what! But please make sure you jump on this deal fast because the contest ends on January 22, 2017 at 11:59 pm (you can redeem your $25 credit until April 30, 2017).

Seriously folks, so in love with my new watch and I am so happy that I have found a couple of easy style tricks to make me feel a little more human and not like a total slob when I am running around LA. Make sure you take advantage of the awesome JORD deals available!

Do you have any easy style tips for me? Let me know if the comments!

DIY with MyPrintly Plus a HUGE Giveaway!

This is a sponsored post. I was compensated in the form of a discount, free product, and/or monetary fee. All opinions are my own.

A couple of weeks ago, I was invited to visit the HP MyPrintly Suite as part of the BlogHer conference (I didn’t actually attend the conference, but since it was held in LA, I got to take advantage of some fringe benefits!). I am currently writing this post on my HP laptop and already own an HP printer, so I figured I would check out the new offerings from one of my favorite tech companies. There are some super cool new products available from HP (one of which I will be giving away at the end of this post!) and I was really stoked to see some of the new things you can do. There are three apps I learned about that pair with HP printers, and I love them all! We got to play around with them at the suite to make some examples. The first one is Pic Collage, which allows you to make all kinds of cool collage designs. Mine is pretty basic, but there are also lots of fun stickers and text you can add (my collage is on the left). The second app is HP Cards, which has TONS of card designs (including some Disney ones) for every occasion. I made a belated anniversary card for Matt since I found this pink floral design that I loved.

The third app was my favorite one and I have used it several times since attending the event. It’s call HP Snapshots, and it is meant to be paired with the HP Social Media Snapshots sticker paper. These are 4″ x 5″ sheets with a sticky back. The app pulls pictures from your Instagram and Facebook and allows you to print them out on a Polaroid like sheet. I’m a big fan of the plain white border (as you will see below), but they also have different designs. Some of them will print your social media caption right on the picture. These are just some of the things you could do with the HP social media snapshot prints:

1. Dress up a plain notebook. I also covered the plain binding of this notebook with some washi tape for a little added flair!

2. Personalize a plastic pouch. I happened to already have this pouch on hand, so I added the sticker to up the cuteness factor!

3. Create the perfect birthday party goody bags. I added this shot of Squirt with a “Thanks for coming to my birthday party” caption to a plain paper gift bag for a personalized party favor.

I mean, the possibilities with these social media snapshots are endless! I want to stick them on everything! I am going to use them for gift tags, calendars, cards…you name it!

In addition to the awesome apps, we got to see (and feel) the most lightweight and compact printer from HP, and definitely the smallest printer I have ever seen. The HP DeskJet 3755 is about six pounds and is the same height as my iPhone. Oh, and did I mention it also copies and scans? Seriously, this is every college student/New York studio dwelling/tiny space creative’s dream! AND it comes in a bunch of fun colors! OH and it also retails for just $69.99! Guys, I try not to pitch you products very often, but this is one that is so cool and has so many applications for so many people. I was legit impressed with this printer.

Another amazing aspect of the HP printer family is the HP Instant Ink program, which I am a member of. I’m sure we have all had that experience of going to print out something (something with a deadline most likely) only to find the printer out of ink. With HP Instant Ink, that literally never happens. When you sign up for the program, you pick a level with regard to how many pages a month you print, and plans start at just $2.99 a month. When your HP printer detects you are about to run out of ink, it sends a super bat signal to ink headquarters and a new ink cartridge is shipped right to your door. You literally have to do nothing in the process! It might be my favorite thing about my HP printer! And good news for you readers, if you use the code SCHOOL3 when you sign up for HP Instant Ink, you get three months free. Seriously, there is little better in this world than free stuff.

The really, really exciting news is that I have an HP DeskJet3755 to giveaway! The kind folks at HP were nice enough to gift all of the suite attendees with their own printer, and since I already have and love my own HP printer, I figured I should give this one away to one of you! Use the form below to enter! Good luck to everyone!

Disney Descendants Book Review and a Giveaway, Part Two!

As I mentioned in my previous post, after leaving the Isle of the Lost book launch event, I went straight home, opened my copy, and dove in.  I was immediately captivated by the main character, Mal, daughter of Maleficent (played by Dove Cameron in the Disney Channel movie).  I was also interested to learn about the Isle of the Lost, an island covered by a dome where all of our favorite Disney villains live with their kids.  The villains have all been banished to the island by King Beast (not going to lie, it kind of annoyed me that they continually refer to him as King “Beast”, doesn’t he have an actual name?), who is the ruler of Auradon, the land where all the pretty people live.  The island seems like a pretty terrible place to grow up.  They don’t have any fresh food, but instead live off the remnants and leftovers from Auradon.  The buildings are all rundown and in general, life seems crappy.  The villain kids all attend evil school and try to get as up to no good as they can.
Probably the most striking part of the novel is the relationship the kids have with their villain parents.  Each kid (Mal, daughter of Malificent; Jay, son of Jafar; Carlos, son of Cruella de Vil; and Evie, daughter of the Evil Queen) has their own struggle with their parent, but they all boil down to one thing: not feeling loved and accepted.  It is really sad to see these kids constantly strive to please their parents, only to be continually shut down.  It is this strive for acceptance that leads Mal to take the others on a quest for Maleficent’s scepter, the Dragon’s Eye (all magic was banished on the island, the scepter along with it), which is the main action in the novel.  The novel ends seemingly where the Disney Channel movie, Descendants, is going to pick up.
I am a big fan of author Melissa de la Cruz’s previous young adult novels, so while I generally enjoyed Isle of the Lost, I was a little disappointed in its lack of depth.  While her previous books were written for teens, I feel this one would be better for a younger audience.  I really liked the introduction to the characters and to the world of the villain kids, but it took up most of the book, leaving little time for the actual action.  The quest for the Dragon’s Eye should be the center of the novel, but it is rushed into about the last third.  I wish there had been some more time spent on the plot, rather than all on the characters.  However, if you are a Disney fan, you will enjoy all the “hidden” (they’re pretty obvious) Disney tidbits sprinkled throughout the story.  And if you are planning on watching Descendants, this book is a great way to get you psyched for the movie.  I think that was the general purpose for writing this book, to get people excited for the movie.  If that was indeed the main goal,  then the book is a success.  While I was planning on watching the film anyway, I will certainly make sure I tune in now.  I’m not sure the book stands well on its own though, and it seems unclear at this point if this is going to become a series of books.  I hope it does so there is more time to expand on the characters and their interactions with their parents.  That was the true heart of the novel and by far the most interesting part.  Overall, Isle of the Lost was an enjoyable read and if you are a Disney fan, you should definitely check it out!
Which leads perfectly to my latest contest!  I will be giving away a grand prize of one copy of Isle of the Lost, autographed by both Melissa de la Cruz and Disney Channel star Dove Cameron.  In addition, I will be giving away TWO copies of Isle of the Lost (not signed) to two runner up winners.  See the form below for rules and entry methods!  Also, I will be posting a picture of the autographed copy on my Instagram account later today, so make sure you check it out!
